Dynamic changes of different serum glycoproteins after bone fractures.

چکیده
The physiologic response to a simple injury was studied in a group of 24 adults suffering from uncomplicated fractures of the tibia and fibula. The dynamic changes of different protein and glycoprotein fractions were estimated. At Days 1, 4, 10, and 30 after the fracture, there was no significant alteration in the total protein levels, but the albumin decreased (18%) and and z2-globulinsincreased. The most pronounced changes were observed in the seromucoid, haptoglobin, and ceruloplasmin fractions. These fractions started to rise in the first 4 days after the fracture, but only the seromucoid and ceruloplasmin remained elevated after a month. The results suggesta rapid turnover of thoseglycoprotein fractions; they also show that even a local injury, like an uncomplicatedfracture of the tibia and fibula, is sufficient to cause significant elevation of most of the glycoprotein fractions. The possible mechanism is discussed.

Relationship between Bone Mineral Density and Serum Vitamin D with Low Energy Hip and Distal Radius Fractures: A Case-Control Study
Background: The main purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between serum vitamin D and the status of bone mineral density in patients with low-energy hip and distal radius fracture. Methods: This retrospective case-control study was performed between January 2013 and January 2014. Participants aged 55 years or older were divided to case group including 85 patients with lo...
متن کاملChanges in biochemical markers after lower limb fractures.
BACKGROUND The bone remodeling sequence after bone fracture changes the concentrations of biochemical bone markers, but the relationships of fracture size and of healing time to changes in biomarkers are unclear. The present pilot study was undertaken to determine the changes found in serum bone markers after plate osteosynthesis of closed distal tibial and malleolar fractures during a study pe...
متن کاملComparison in bone turnover markers during early healing of femoral neck fracture and trochanteric fracture in elderly patients
Healing of fractures is different for each bone and bone turnover markers may reflect the fracture healing process. The purpose of this study was to determine the characteristic changes in bone turnover markers during the fracture healing process. The subjects were consecutive patients with femoral neck or trochanteric fracture who underwent surgery and achieved bone union. There were a total o...
متن کاملSerum ionised calcium and its relationship to parathyroid hormone after tibial fracture.
The changes in serum adjusted ionised calcium and parathyroid hormone (PTH) were prospectively studied in 32 patients with isolated tibial fractures, treated conservatively. We measured serum albumin, adjusted total calcium, phosphate, pH, adjusted ionised calcium and PTH at intervals until the fractures had healed. The mean ionised calcium adjusted for pH fell within 24 hours of injury, and th...
متن کاملComparison of Intertrochanteric Fracture Fixation with Dynamic Hip Screw and Bipolar Hemiarthroplasty Techniques
Background: At present, there is no consensus on an appropriate treatment modality for intertrochanteric fractures in the elderly with background diseases. The aim of the present study was to compare treatment outcomes of intertrochanteric fractures reduced with dynamic hip screws (DHS) and bipolar hemiarthroplasty in elderly patients with background medical conditions. Methods: In this randomi...
